Subject: Sonics: Who is the Bitterist City?
What city got screwed the most by a sports team leaving?

I'm thinking Brooklyn.  It seemed Dodger fan took it harder than Giants
Fan.

When the Oilers left, folks here were really bitter.  Even though
Houston is a weak-ass fan town.  Bud Adams was such a dick, screwing
the team by forcing hold outs year after year, then the debacle in
Buffalo...  and then Adams, after we had paid for the Dome upgrades he
held us over a barrel for, freaking bailed anyway.

Baltimore Colts fan?  Leaving in the middle of the night is cold.

New Orleans Jazz?   Minneapolis Lakers?  St. Louis Cardinals (NFL)?

That's easy. Arlington got shafted when the Senators left Washington.

Seattle is fairly pissed off.  We were shafted from all sides - the
city, NBA and owners.  The only thing we were unwilling to do was open
the pocketbook for a new arena we didn't really need.  You guys can
have the NBA, I'm done with em.

I saw our buddy Coz interviewed on T.V.  He's a major force behind
"Save Our Sonics."

Greg.

Oh God, Coz. I hadn't thought of that dude in years. What
a douchebag he used to be.

The pussies in Cleveland were about the most bitterest you could
get...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Browns

"The 1995 season was a disaster on the field as well. After starting
3–1, the Browns lost 3 straight before the news broke about the team's
impending move cut the legs out from under the team. They finished
5–11, including a 2–7 record in the nine games after the announcement.
When fans in the Dawg Pound became unruly during their final home game
against the Cincinnati Bengals, action moving towards that end zone
had to be moved to the opposite end of the field. Several fans set
fires in the stands, especially in the "Dawg Pound" section and
assaulted security officials and police officers who tried to quell
the growing fires."

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very
well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive,
we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build
your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a
gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will
follow ours." (General Sir Charles Napier)

Surely you jest. They should have gotten on their knees and
prayed hallelujah when Bidwell left town. They got the Rams
and a Super Bowl, whereas they wouldn't have had diddly had
the Cardinals stayed.

I'm sure the same would happen with any team if the move was announced
mid season.

I, for one, was happy to see Art Model leave my state.

There isn't much support for it frankly.

I don't think Brooklyn got screwed.  Ebbetts Field was too small and
had no parking.  The owners wanted to build a new stadium on their
own, with no public money involved, but the city of New York wanted
them in Queens and not Brooklyn.  LA stepped in and the rest is
history.

Furthermore, MLB should have been quicker to respond to an increased
market for their product and expanded anyway.
