Sightings of Mary Mother of Clod always cause great excitement among
the slower witted of us. Why? As miracles go they are at the bottom of
the heap and accomplish nothing, with the alleged power of Mary she
could appear in a Cancer ward and heal everyone, but apparently she
would rather appear on a piece of toast. Or kumquat. What is the
significance of an alleged divine being appearing in a cloud?

LL: Ha. She too works in mysterious ways, evidently.
Can't say it's much of a surprise, some time during the last 2,000
years, the standards for "miracles" dropped drastically.
Today, the word "miracle" is often used to describe a growing flower,
of the fact that our world exists (fine tuned etc.).
If only seven die in a car crash that could have killed nine, the word
"miracle" is mentioned.
Large scaled natural disasters always had some sort of connection to
divine powers. It doesn't change even today when most of them can be
explained and sometimes predicted.
So with such low expectations, anything that is considered to be
unexplained or unlikely, even weird shaped in the clouds, is treated
as a rare event.
Besides, in our days, "selling God" is not different than selling any
other product to the public. And when it comes to "amazing events", I
can even say I've seen worse commercials that still convinced people
to buy the product.
